Cherries remind me of Bulgaria

Cherries.............they are just so good!

Cherries always remind me of my home country of Bulgaria. My grandparents live in a village outside of Pernik and as a little girl I remember spending many days playing in the big back yard behind my grandparents' house. There was this big cherry tree in the back and from one of the tree's majestic branch was a swing my grandfather had built. I remember many summer days and nights swinging from that swing and gazing at the sunlight from above as it visually echoed on the leaves and cherry shapes. It was a very tall tree and I can vividly remember my grandfather using a stick of some sorts to shake the branches from above. As he shook the branches cherries would fall to the ground and my grandmother and I would pick them up from the ground and eat them.

Ahhhh sweet memories. I only lived in Bulgaria until I was 5 but I still cherish those memories. I still love cherries and it's no wonder that I associate cherries with summer days, the sun, the smell of flowers,family, and happiness!
