Hello everyone. The painting above is a new mixed media painting I recently did. It is 12x12 canvas painting. Initially, I knew that I wanted to incorporate a bird in the painting but not much else. I guess you can say that I allowed my intuition to paint. I really love and enjoy the process of uncovering the final results of an art piece.
I will describe some of the steps that I took in painting this piece. 1. I used a yellow fluid acrylic paint for the background. I applied this as if it were water color. 2. I then used watered down white, blue, green and yellow paint and dripped the paint from the top of the canvas. This drip process creates unique streaks of paint throughout the canvas and this creates really pretty backgrounds. 3.Then I used a pencil and lightly drew and image of a bird, a branch and some abstracted leaves. 4. I used watercolor crayons to color the bird, branch, and leaves. This creates a transparent effect and allows the background to show through the colors. 5.To create the various colored shapes in the painting, I cut out craft paper and with Liquitex heavy gloss gel applied it to the painting. 6. the final step was using white paint to create various dots throughout the painting. The use of white dots really gives the painting a whimsical and fun feeling. So, for all my readers, I urge you to share your paintings and creative process!

Crystal thank you for your comment. Yes, I always have to look at art extra close so that I can figure out how the piece was created. There are so many different types of art and sometimes its hard to guess how the artist created an art piece.
